How rooms work
What a venue room in AOA is: how to get in with an NFC tag or a link, what you can do inside and when your profile disappears from the room.
What a room is
A room is a venue's digital space in AOA. Every venue (a café, coworking space, bookshop or bar) has its own room. In the room you see the profiles of other guests who are physically at the same venue right now.
How to join
There are two ways to get into a room:
- NFC tag: tap your phone on the NFC tag on a table or near the venue entrance
- Link: open a link from a friend or from the venue's social media
Important: NFC verification makes it impossible to join from home. You can only get into the room when you are physically at the venue. That way, every profile in the room belongs to a real person near you.
What you can do in a room
- Browse profiles: learn more about the people around you
- Send a honk: if someone catches your interest, send them a signal
- Quick Actions: after a mutual honk, pick an action such as "I'll come over", "Let's meet at the bar" or "Let's swap contacts"
- See activity: how many people are in the room right now
When do I leave the room?
You leave the room automatically when you:
- Leave the venue
- Close the app for a long time
- Tap the "Leave room" button
Once you leave, your profile disappears from the room and other guests can no longer see you.
